Songs about the oil spill gush from New Orleans musicians
A sampling of the jazz, bluegrass, rap and other songs inspired by the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

New Orleans musicians often write about tragedies and the BP oil spill is no exception. These are just a small sample of the jazz, bluegrass, rap and other songs New Orleans musicians wrote about the spill. (A little something for everyone--smx)

Listen and find out more about Anders Osborne at www.myspace.com/andersosbornenola
Anders Osborn has voice. His album, American Patchwork, is a humble soulful expression of putting things back together and returning from something adverse. It is a story of the American Dream.
Anders Osborn provides the soundtrack for my Summer of 2010, his album playing always, finding myself searching through it for all the gems and twisted truths, the chunky grooves.
Osborn starts with a grim tune about going to the crossroad--On the Road to Charlie Parker and ends with a cautionary beautiful lilt pleading for the power of asking--Call On Me. In between, there are those reminiscent moments like you've heard this before. Phenominal guitar work, creative and innovative in a classic way.
Recorded for Alligator Records, this is an unusual choice by this primarily blues label. Anders Osborn channels the best of rock's past with a new lyrical verver and the band is from New Orleans so you know they're great
I suggest getting the album and digging in.

On behalf of the KCTY crew, I'd like to congratulate the Los Angeles Lakers on repeating their playoff success and capturing a 17th World Championship.
In what most would describe as a dismal first half, Boston fans and Anti-Lakers alike were celebrating early as a victory for the defending champions seemed all too bleak. After being down 13 points in the 3rd quarter, the Lakers showed that championship spirit and battled back to win the game in typical Hollywood fashion; Finding an unlikely hero in Ron "Ron-Ron" Artest who was the leading scorer in the game.
The Celtics-Lakers rivalry is without a doubt the most storied rivalry in NBA history, with this series being the 12th time these teams have met in the Finals. Boston holds 9 Finals victories over LA, however the Lakers 3 wins have all come in teams last 4 meetings. I have a feeling that this rivalries continuing legacy will live on for years to come.
As a reminder KCTY will be back to Live Programming this Fall. In the meantime enjoy our Spring Semester replays, and have a great summer
